I have to begin with how much I love every Andrea Johnston novel. I don't I've read a mediocre novel from her. I love everyone of them. I will admit this is not one of my favorites (Tequila and Tailgates will always be the top--Ashton is wickedly hilarious. If you haven't read it--Do it!). I love how she intertwines the characters from her previous series with this one. Although, if you haven't read the series, you can still fully understand these characters since they were minor characters in the series. The reader didn't get a lot about Beth during her time at Country Road--although we do know who her hook-up is and why he wanted a long term relationship with her and not Beth. But Mercy tells us her version later in the book too. No one is in the dark about her previous life. Mercy Elizabeth Warner is still trying to find her place in this world after working for Taylor at Country Road--a bar in Lexington, Kentucky. Beth as she went by in Lexington decided it was time for a change. It had nothing to do with the fact that her casual hook up decided he wanted a long term relationship--with someone else. She heads back to Texas to visit her momma for two weeks before heading for the bright lights of Austin. She grew up in a small town and hates everything about it. Alice Carlisle has problems.
Her sociology Ph.D. dissertation is going nowhere, she’s about to lose the TV extra job that’s been paying her bills, and her roommate is kicking her out. She needs to find a new place to live ASAP, so she can focus on finally finishing her doctorate.
Enter Griffin, one of Hollywood’s rising stars, who offers to let her move into his guest room if she’ll dog sit for him. Four months rent free in a nice house with an adorable dog is an offer Alice can’t turn down—even if she has major qualms about her movie star roommate.
Looking almost smug, she sat. “I’m not sitting because you told me to. I’m doing it because I’m hungry and I want to.”
Right. I didn’t say shit.
“I saw that. I saw that smirk on your face.” She took a bite.
She didn’t see shit. “You’ll see what I want you to see.”
“Oh.” She laughed through the word. “Okay, sure, Mr. I’m-A-Tank, I can control everything. Well, guess what? You can’t control me.”
I abruptly stood and kicked the stool out behind me. Before she even had a chance to blink, I’d grabbed her around the waist and lifted her skinny ass to the counter. Stepping between her legs, I took two handfuls of her thick hair I couldn’t keep my hands out of and crashed my mouth over hers.
She didn’t gasp. She didn’t push me away. She didn’t even hesitate.
